Toyota Sprinter Trueno was first introduced in early 1972 with the TE27 series. This is a high-performance model which was powered by 1.6 liter engine. The TE27 series also featured 5 speed automatic transmission.
The seventh and last generation of Sprinter Trueno was introduced in 1995 and then after the year of 2000, Toyota no longer manufactured this model. With the discontinuation of the Toyota Sprinter, the Trueno name was retired. The Sprinters was then replaced by the 5-door hatchback Toyota Allex from the E120 series.
All Sprinter Trueno models have front-engine layout with either rear-wheel-drive (1972–1987) or front-wheel-drive (1987–2000). There are also 2 body options. You can choose the car body style as 2-door coupé or 3-door liftback which was only available on fourth generation: Toyota AE86/AE85 (1983–1987). With this 3-door liftback style and being the final rear-wheel-drive model, the Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86/AE85 has gained much love from JDM car enthusiasts.

Design and Styling
The model has a transverse engine design and features pop-up headlights, giving it a unique look. It has a low seating position, with comfortable seats that add to its overall driving experience.
Vision isn't great due to the small windows and narrow pillars, but this doesn't detract from the car's overall appeal. The chassis has been sculpted for a three-dimensional effect, adding to its attractive design.
Interior Features
The Toyota Sprinter Trueno offers an excellent driving position, with unassisted steering requiring some twirling at 3.3 turns lock-to-lock.
The interior is old-fashioned and made with different materials, including leather seats in some versions. It features a detailed engine bay, actual struts holding up the rear hatch, and working headlights and taillights.
The basic internal architecture of the engine makes it remarkably dependable; according to reviews, just few repairs are needed over its lifespan.
Engine and Performance
Boasting a 1587cc 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine, the AE86 delivers an impressive 96kW power at 6600rpm and 149Nm of torque. The engine is known for its smooth throttle response and revs up to 7,700rpm, giving it a powerful sound. Despite being lightweight, it offers a vibrant performance that exceeds expectations. Its impressive engine comes at a cost, however, it may get hot and you might try an additional best transmission cooler to enjoy the "old monster" at the maximum.
The AE86 has become an iconic model thanks to its near-perfect balance and rear-wheel drive chassis. It's easy to see why many people are still enamored with this classic car today.
While the Sprinter Trueno might not be the fastest or most powerful car, it's a blast to drive. If you want to drive on a winding mountain road or tear up a racetrack, this is undoubtedly the car for you.
Handling and Ride Quality
The Toyota Sprinter Trueno has been praised for its fantastic handling and ride quality. The rear-wheel drive, the 4A-GE engine, and the lightweight structure make it an excellent vehicle for those who love to drive.
This lightweight car is part of the front-engine/rear-wheel-drive Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno series and was offered as a Corolla in some countries. It can be tricky to handle at the limit, but when you get the hang of it, it's surprisingly agile and fast.
The car is reliable, with an internal architecture that is basic but efficient. Its performance is more vigorous than the specs indicate, making it one of the most fun cars to drive.
Price
The Toyota Sprinter Trueno price will surprise you because it looks like a generic Japanese car from the 80s. A model in tip-top condition may cost you 20K to 30K in US dollars on average. The price could be more if you buy from someone's private collections.
